Who We Are

Thanks for stopping by!

Like I said on the opening page, I’m a very normal guy who is blessed to be able to do what he loves doing… and I get to do it with other really great people! Photography isn’t just something I like doing; it’s something I have to do. It’s something that’s essential to who I am. It’s also my main creative outlet. It’s not quite as critical as, say, breathing, but it’s not too far off.

How did I get this way?

I honestly don’t know. Maybe I was born like this! All I know is that the first time I picked up a camera (that I can recall) I was instantly hooked. For the short version, skip to the next paragraph. For more details, read on!

I grew up in a small town in southern Idaho and, as sometimes happens in small towns in southern Idaho, my brother and I were driving around bored out of our minds. So he mentions that at K-Mart (yes, I said K-Mart, but it won’t happen again… I promise!) they had a cool new camera we could check out. So we did. I think it was the Canon Rebel. It just came out and it was glorious! (I didn’t really know better at that point…) I could push a button while looking through the view finder and it would focus on my brother. Then I could just point it barely away from him and it would focus on the background and he would be a blurry mess. I LOVED IT! And I haven’t looked back since!

I’ve been a photographer for about 10 years and I enjoy it now even more than when I first started.

So, why do I want to create images, even works of art, of people?

Well, when I was growing up my family didn’t get pictures taken on a very regular basis. And when we did it always seemed that the photographer was only concerned with getting us in and out as soon as possible with little regard for how we worked together as a family and/or individuals. That left two impressions on me that have really helped to mold what I do.

The first thing I do is take a LOT of pictures of my family now. Looking back on my developing years, I wish I had something to help me remember the way my family was. It’s as if there’s a great void during that portion of my life that I will never be able to fill. In contrast, I think I have about 3,500 pictures of my two kids… the oldest of which is only 2 1/2 years old!

The other thing I do is that I do my best to help other families and individuals create images they can take with them throughout their lives. This is a core value that I hold dear. It is what motivates me to do what I do in the way I do it. It also means that scenic photos just aren’t going to cut it for me!

This page is titled “Who WE Are”. So, who else is there?

I’m glad you asked! WE are myself and my freakin’ awesome wife, Judy. While I may be the one going out to most of the photo sessions, she is a very important part of Rich Imaging. She keeps us moving behind the scenes and does quite a bit of the post production on the images we create. Many of you probably have exchanged email or have spoken over the phone with her.

Judy is a loving support and a constant encouragement helping keep me on track. Rich Imaging simply wouldn’t be possible without her.

I also have several assistants who work with me. They are great people and really bring a lot to the session. In fact, they are all growing photographers themselves. I’m sure you’ll enjoy getting to know them during the session as well.

Thanks for taking a few moments out of your day to get to know me a bit. I look forward to meeting you soon!

Cheers,

-Mark
